So a car I’ve only read about on the MB forums in the past, which I actually used for some advice when I fitted heavy duty bilsteins to my 300ce-24, has recently sold on Bring A Trailer. The owner is very knowledgeable and had this 300CE since new, fitted a period correct twin-turbo to the M103 SOHC engine late in its life, then soon had a custom fitted widebody using metal not fiberglass. It’s a baby hammer basically.
Will be sad not hearing about this car anymore...until somebody brings it to the next Radwood show

I very much enjoy the m103 and m104. If their wiring harnesses didn’t spontaneously combust as their head gaskets eat themsleves, I would have a car with that engine on my wishlist.
They sound fantastic and they loooove boost. Essentially a German JZ engine (and iirc , there are claims that the JZ has m103 roots)

Damn, that looks awesome. Only thing I would change if it was mine would be to manual swap it and paint it like a deep navy blue, or something a little less brash and more tasteful than the red

By this point most ofthe m104 harnesses im finding on cars with any service history are the non degrading denso harnesses. Sure, weird things will still use it on the car but the problem is lessened. And while the head problem is still a pain to deal with, its a 140k interval thing, well without boost.
Thankfully having an amg variant in the C36 has inspired a bit of aftermarket support for the big 6s. Ive even seen steel head gaskets.
Im suprised there isnt more money into boosting these. Iron block, square designed, closed block design.
Sadly though theres very few applications of that motor where the big 6 is the top tier option, even boosted.

I love how correct everything is, that is properly cool. If that is the kind of car someone wants its not obscene.
But man, a stock 500 sl from that just after that period nearly matches numbers. Youd have to want it bad.
